Lab members attend IUPAB Congress 2024 in Kyoto and the 6th Russian Conference on Medicinal Chemistry in Nizhny Novgorod

This summer, our lab had the opportunity to participate in two scientific meetings, where we shared our research through poster presentations.
In July, Nikita attended the IUPAB Congress 2024 in Kyoto, Japan. He presented our recent theoretical work on the kinetochore complex NDC80, as well as a study on microtubule catastrophes and rescues.
Later, Nikita, along with Mikhail and Ilya, attended the 6th Russian Conference on Medicinal Chemistry in Nizhny Novgorod. All presented posters on the methodologies we've been developing to study tubulin-drug interactions.
We’re pleased to have been able to contribute to these conferences and to connect with others in the field.

The 1st CTP PCP RAS Summer School in Molecular Biology is over

We are happy to report that the past 5 days were quite intense, productive and successful. Together with 12 great students we performed gene cloning, transformation of bacterial cells, IPTG-induced gene expression and protein purification. As a result, three beautiful fluorescent proteins were produced and isolated.

A paper with our contribution is published in J.A.C.S.!

We were lucky to make our modest contribution to the extensive study conducted by chemists at Moscow State University and Florida State University, USA: Expanding Stereoelectronic Limits of endo-tet Cyclizations: Synthesis of Benz[b]azepines from Donor-Acceptor Cyclopropanes. Our contribution to this work was to determine the effects of completely new compounds synthesized for this study on the microtubules dynamics in vitro.

Our review on the roles of microtubule tips is published in Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology!
In this work, we tried to address issues related to the physiology of a wide range of processes associated with the microtubule dynamics, and to formulate modern ideas about the mechanisms and regulation of the microtubules dynamics in cells and artificial systems:Regulation of microtubule dynamics, mechanics and function through the growing tip

Our paper is on December cover!

Our collaboration project with Antonina Roll-Mecak lab is published in Developmental Cell!

We have shown that the unstructured C-tails of alpha-tubulin can directly regulate microtubule dynamics. Detyrosination of alpha-tubulin C-tails affects microtubules only indirectly, modulating the binding of regulatory protein CLIP-170 to the microtubules. Below is a video showing the calculation results of the interaction between alpha-tubulin C-tail and its globule. On the left is a picture drawn by a first author, Jiayi Chen, of comets formed by plus-end binding proteins, presented on the cover of Dev Cell!
